The Girl from Atlantis by Sølve Sundsbø
This recent editorial for Japanese Vogue photographed by Sølve Sundsbø is fantastic. The Prada jewel pieces (5th down) and that stunning Alexander McQueen outfit in the sixth picture down really make the model look like some sort of fantasy sea creature. I wonder if the model was actually underwater, or if it is clever retouching? If I was directing the shoot, I don't think I could ever bring myself to sumberge (and probably ruin) all that stunning, fragile clothing. Assuming it was actually shot underwater, I wonder if it was done before McQueen died, because after McQueen's death his company announced that they were recalling all the samples, so as to preserve his legacy, and surely they wouldn't have allowed them to be soaked in a swimming pool after then?
I'm a bit worried about this blog... lately, when I've been able to blog, it has been about quite random things which I've been thinking, as opposed to things which are partially formed by my idea of what a 'fashion blog' should be like, which is what I used to do before. Is it too much when I post inspiring pictures of military aircraft, or start talking about the concept of fashion? I sense, possibly wrongly, that people are losing interest compared to before when I did much more directly 'fashion-y' posts all the time. Maybe it's because of the slight personal crisis I've been having lately, which has meant that I don't really have much confidence in anything that I do, and my antidepressants have been making me feel a little dazed... Please just comment if I'm starting to get boring/incomprehensible.

I like your posts... all of them. I don't know if the most recent ones should be part of a fashion blog, but the're certainly fit for a GOOD blog.

I just want to say that I love this blog. I first discovered you on Lookbook (those LEGO/De Stilj boots!) and followed you over here. I've been coming back to read your posts ever since. Well done indeed.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the recent posts. I feel that your blog is more about culture in general as opposed to fashion singularly - which isn't a bad thing at all. You could always lose the 'London fashion blog' undertitle as you don't live in London any more and don't only blog about fashion. Just a thought..
ReplyDeleteKeep up the great blogging.

Fashion isn't created in isolation, it comes from various sources of inspiration. I really enjoy the fact that you bring all these seemingly unrelated design topics together, but still manage to inspire. I read Cathy Horyn's blog for fashion journalism, go to GQ.com/fashion spot etc. for runway images and rely on your blog for rational fashion related (though not obsessive) writing. I subscribe to 150+ blogs and Hapsical is one of the few I still read. Please continue, you're doing an excellent job!
ReplyDeleteAmazing editorial!
ReplyDeletemore PICTURES!! AND PURCHASES PLZ!
ReplyDeleteI don't see any problem at all in your divergent posts. Nor do I see them as not connected with fashion.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand I have a problem with fashion blogs that harp on about fashion as if fashion itself drives fashion. There is a world beyond fashion and it strongly influences the fashion world. Your Raf post showed that very well.
I have been having the exact same thoughts on the fake sartorialist blog and its future, still very confused. Feel free to chat it you like.
Hope your antidepressants are at least making you feel better :)
I actually didn't start following you until the aircraft and minimalism posts. What separates you from other fashion bloggers is the personal touch on your posts and the effort of actually writing down your thoughts on these subjects.
ReplyDeleteAnd I totally know what you mean about the antidepressants. Such a bust.
Those are actually the sorts of posts I prefer. Don't get me wrong, I love your fashion posts; they're what got me reading your blog. But posts like the one yesterday, stick with me a little longer, providing more for me to think about and consider. The day you posted the stream of minimalist images, I kept noticing everything around me that fit within that category. And I'll never forget the post on Vilhelm Hammershøi. Those images have stuck with me since and served as an inspiration for me in my work.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work. I may not comment often, but I'm a devoted reader.
Im in love woth your blog ! Is super cute ! I love it !! L

I still obsessively visit your blog to see if it's been updated. Fashion, thought, aircraft, whatever, it's all a joy to read.
ReplyDeleteAs for the anti-d's, all the cool kids take them. I'd be totally lost without mine. Granted I'm not a cool kid but I have been around the SSRI block :)
Cheer up Charlie!
ReplyDeleteHey mister. Don't be so hard on yourself. I love your blog, and I really enjoy reading anything you write. I find you very interesting.
ReplyDelete:)
it's your blog. you should blog about whatever you want. to be honest i've stopped following loads of fashion blogs because all they talk about is fashion and everyone talks about the exact same thing. your blog is interesting because its about all the things that interests you and that makes your little corner in cyber space pretty special and different from everyone else.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the most thought provoking (fashion) blogs I read partly because you see fashion as a whole - how the industry works, how fashion is marketed, culture, inspirations - rather than an isolated fantasy. If you still enjoy it, please keep writing.
