FILM: Helmut by June
I am really pleased to have discovered on YouTube the documentary about Helmut Newton, Helmut by June, which was filmed by June (Newton's wife) on a portable camcorder throughout the early 90s, and was assembled in 1994. The film offers a fascinating and intimate insight into the work and psyche of perhaps the most famous (and certainly the most infamous) photographer of the 20th century. It is so worth watching: if you have any sort of interest in fashion or photography, I really recommend setting aside an hour to watch the whole thing.
NB. NSFW (obviously!).
Is this a #latepass? Has everyone seen it already? I think it's just brilliant...some of the footage, like when he's shooting Carla Bruni, or Yves Saint Laurent, is positively FASHION GOLD!

Fashion Gold indeed! This is actually very well shot by JUNE.
ReplyDeleteThere is something so magnetic about Cindy, she just pops out of the compositions she is put in. I never really understood her appeal before this.
I love how he describes himself as a 'naughty boy' who became an anarchist. Maybe there is hope for me after all.
this is cool!
