Designer: Damir Doma

We've been meaning to do a post about Paris-based Croatian men's designer Damir Doma for some time now, because of his incredible way with draping and cut. Doma studied fashion in Berlin and Munich, graduated in 2004, and then spent time working for Raf Simons (a seemingly crucial step for a lot of the men's designers we like). Multiple layering, asymmetric cut, and fluid draping characterise Doma's work, resulting in amazing men's outfits that for the most part (it isn't always entirely successful) are visually very rich and interesting to look at, as well as seeming quite sensuous and ephemeral. At the same time, it still feels quite strong and masculine, because of the monochrome colour pallet, the injection of sharply tailored pieces among the more loosely draped ones, and the associations with ninja wear. Doma seems to have a real skill in knowing exactly how much to drape a particular outfit, because everything has a real sense of balance and proportion to it.SS09 SS08
