Style Snippets

1) Versace Versus Accessories by Christopher Kane

Images from Vogue.

Versace recently announced the re-introduction their diffusion line, Versus, news which admittedly might not interest us much under normal circumstances, if it wasn't for the fact that Christopher Kane is designing a 'capsule collection' of accessories for the reborn label. Donatella Versace recognised Christopher Kane's talents early on, employing him as a consultant, but this is the first time the two have collaborated directly. They may seem like an odd match (her the queen of sexy Italian glamour, him the more conceptual young, rising London star), but somehow they really fit together well and this collection works. Yes, it's a touch tacky, but actually we rather love the hugely exaggerated imitation diamonds adorning everything, and it's fun to see Kane's conceptualism ramped up with Versace's glamour.

See more of the collection in this video from The Telegraph:

2) Zinc Magazine's Roy Lichtenstein Editorial

Photographer Mike Ruiz came up with this fun Roy Lichtenstein themed editorial for Zinc Magazine. We like it, but from these images it's hard to see how it's selling clothes, and perhaps they could have taken it that step further for maximum pop-tastic-ness?

3) Carine Roitfeld in pre-runway Dolce & Gabbana?

Left image: Style.com; right image: TFS

During New York Fashion Week Carine Roitfeld was rocking a light pink fluffy fur coat (above right), which bears a striking resemblance to one Dolce & Gabbana showed as part of their FW09 collection (albeit in a much brighter hue) in Milan about a week later (above left). Carine has been known to wear pieces from designer's collections before they even make their debut on the runway (the wonders of being the editor of French Vogue...) so perhaps that's what she was doing here? (unless anyone who can confirm her coat to be by another designer can correct us on this pressing style question).

4) Bad Bag Love

We rather love this SS09 Givenchy bag, but for some reason it seems kind of illicit (is it the gold and silver together? the fact that it's so big and so shiny? the price? or maybe because we're all meant to be over 'It bags' and onto 'It shoes' instead?). It's fun though, the shininess makes it look very inviting, and we like the way it would instantly lift even the most dreary of outfits with no extra effort required. Probably best not to wear it with the matching shoes too (though at this level things might get interesting, in a slightly perverse way, with the ultimate matchy-matchy co-ordination)...

Both are available from Luisa via Roma, for €1495 and €1290 respectively (roughly £1,330 and £1150).

5) Courtney Love by Hedi Slimane

Images from hedislimane.com - click to see more from the series.

We came across these recent shots when we were browsing Hedi Slimane's website (the way you do..) and frankly we can't believe it's Courtney Love. Aside from being great photographs, Love seems to have undergone a startling transformation from her shabby state a few years ago (below), unless Slimane's Photoshop skills are as good as his photography ones...

5) I Love Fake Magazine

I ♥ FAKE is a cool, free online magazine hailing from Amsterdam, which spans fashion, art, and youth culture. Ah yes, there's the slight snag: as the recent Dazed & Confused 'teenage takeover' issue demonstrated, magazine attempts to immortalise cool youth are highly prone to being both horribly pretentious and, text wise, at least 50% cringe-inducing nonsense. Still, we think you should download it nonetheless it because it's exciting, it's got some good photography going on, and, um, it's free!

Just try to ignore bits like "As I was walking the black empty streets leading to nothing, I looked at you and remembered, I danced with the devil, as I sold my soul in the twilight city again. Wild at heart, we hear ourselves echoing in the streetlights. There are no people around. We live in the night, like we’re lost in the day. The days that pass by so fast, sometimes are so slow, let’s fast forward to another world." (yeah right), and try not to worry that Ash Stymest moodily pouting is already starting to feel old, even though he's only been at it for a few months. Download the magazine here.
