Designer: DavidDavid

It's so sunny and spring like in London at the moment that we haven't been able to resist getting excited about summer clothes - even though by the weekend it will probably be cold and raining again. It doesn't get much brighter and more summery than DavidDavid, David Saunders' cool London based label. He started off with polo shirts, often hand painted, with striking multi-coloured geometric patterns, which were sold in shops like Dover Street Market in London and Seven in New York, but now he's producing larger ready-to-wear collections too. We love the way he skilfully uses pattern and colour, but at the same time manages to keep it feeling fresh and relevant, even in these post-'nu rave' days.

His SS09 collection has a real energy and freshness to it, and a summery vibe that we like but can't quite place (a sort of updated Miami chic perhaps?). It probably looks deceptively simple too: using pattern and colour well is harder than you might think, yet Saunders succeeds, keeping everything looking very balanced, fun but not without style, bright but not garish...

See more of this collection and others, and stockist details, on his website. Some pieces are sold online at Colette.

  1. not a big fan of bright colors, but the prints are quite cute.

  2. Wonderfully bright. Normally brights look like copies of the eighties, but these are nice.
