Lanvin's SS09 ad campaign.. we really love it in all its bejewelled glory, although we do wonder if, at some point, Lanvin's image of intense luxury will start to feel inappropriate against the current economic backdrop. Perhaps it's pointless, almost clichéd, to expect austerity in design during economic downturn.. even if we can't afford Lanvin we can still derive a degree of pleasure from their rich designs, and at the moment their design integrity keeps it from feeling too flashy. This is in sharp contrast to the (recently refurbished) Harrods men's department we recently made the mistake of visiting: it used to be good, but now it's over-polished, and dripping in rather tasteless marble, and it felt like a relic from another era (although at the height of the boom just a few years ago it would have seemed utterly appropriate), especially since Flavio Briatore's spectacularly vulgar 'Billionaire Couture' takes pride of place. It will be interesting to see which parts of the fashion industry and which brands manage to maintain a better balance between their exclusivity and the current climate of economic pain.
Contrast the above to Lanvin's advertising in the 70s..
Continuing the current trend for older models coming back into high fashion print campaigns, Jerry Hall features in the current Chanel accessories catalogue. We've always been Jerry Hall fans, and say what you will about Photoshop retouching, but we think she looks great here, and somehow it really works - even though the male model is probably half her age!

Finally, because we're always suckers for anything slightly dark and subversive, we rather like these Haider Ackermann shoes, available from Luisa via Roma.

Sorry for the lazy image-dropping blogging today, things have been rather busy.. it'll probably be even more mad tomorrow when we're going to try and take a break from an all-day engagement to rush down to Dover Street Market to pick up one of the preview copies of Katie Grand's much awaited new magazine, Love.. we'll keep you posted if we manage to get a copy.
